GRAND FORKS, N.D. (August 30, 2023) - Standing on the podium next to the No. 13 Buffalo Wild Wings / Lunstra Motorsports No. 13 after charging from 15th to third on Sunday night at Huset's Speedway in Brandon, SD, Mark Dobmeier said, "You gotta remember one thing, you never give up. You just keep diggin' and you go as hard as you can." A fitting ending to a trying three day run that included one of the hardest wrecks of Dobmeier's career Friday night during the World of Outlaws return to River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks. Dobmeier started his Friday night at River Cities with a high pill draw which put him out towards the end of qualifying. Bad luck continued in qualifying when a spin off of turns one and two saw Dobmeier have to try and make the A Main through the last chance showdown.
Running one spot shy of the transfer, a caution with two laps to go gave Dobmeier one last chance to make the show. Heading into turn three, contact with the fourth-place car sent Dobmeier into a breathtaking series of flips off of the top of turn three. Dobmeier was sore after exiting his damaged mount, but the team took Saturday off to regroup before heading back to Huset's Speedway where they are in the thick of the battle for the track championship. Finishing 14th in time trials and sixth in his heat, Dobmeier started deep in the 23-car field on the inside of the eighth row. Following a caution on the second lap, Dobmeier was already into the top ten, and spent most of the 15 laps that followed bouncing between eighth and ninth. From there, Dobmeier capitalized on each restart on laps 19, 22, and 23, making up ground as the only driver inside the top ten to utilize the top of the high-banked oval to move into the top five with four laps remaining. Passing Brendan Mullen and defending track champion Brooke Tatnell, Dobmeier finished the race in the third position, grabbing hard charger honors after passing 12 cars. The pass on Tatnell was also significant in that Tatnell is the point leader, but Dobmeier ate into that lead with the late charge to head into this weekend's season closing double header just 15 points back of the lead. Before the Huset's double header, Dobmeier will again start the weekend at River Cities for the conclusion of the third annual Wayne Anderson Cup. Dobmeier enters the event with an 18-point lead in the Anderson Cup standings. Dobmeier Racing thanks all of its sponsors for their continued support!
