DOBMEIER WINS TRACK AND POINTS CHAMPIONSHIPS AT RIVER CITIES

GRAND FORKS, N.D. (September 21, 2023) - Mark Dobmeier won the track and points titles at River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks last Friday night, his eighth points championship at his home track. The win was also Dobmeier's tenth win of the season with the Northern Outlaw Sprint Association, just the 13th time a driver has hit double-digits in the win column with the 30-year-old series, eight of which were set by Dobmeier himself, most recently hitting the mark in 2018.

Carrying the point lead into the final night of the season, Dobmeier earned the right to start on the pole of the first heat race as the speedway's Track Championship nights are lined up straight up by the season long standings.

Dobmeier easily won his heat, earning the pole for the final 25-lap main event of the season. Dobmeier was looking to hold the lead coming off of turn two but pulled one of the more photographic wheelies you'll see down half the length of the backstretch, falling back to the second spot early.

Dobmeier started to reel Hastings back in for the lead through the fifth lap with the lead duo beginning to work lapped traffic two laps later. Dobmeier used the traffic to his advantage, sneaking around Hastings on the bottom of turn two, regaining the lead.

Hastings remained strong, pulling even at the exit of turn four on a number of occasions as they continued to work thick lap traffic around the midway point of the race.

Only one caution slowed the Feature with ten to go, setting up a single file restart. Dobmeier got a great restart, already leading by a straightaway as the green flag came back out. Dobmeier remained ahead by a straight away when Hastings fell out of the race the following lap.

Dobmeier did have to resume working lap traffic in the final six laps but was never seriously tested, as he went on to his 184th career NOSA victory and the track and points championships at the speedway.

“Tell you what, you know, we had a good car, we were a little tight. They did a little more track prep than we thought they were gonna do, but they made the right moves and had an excellent race track,” Dobmeier said in victory lane post-race. “We were a little tight, obviously, the first lap there I rode a wheelie, I think I looked at the stars all the way down the backstretch but kind of got my head underneath me and got rolling and waited until the track loosened up a little bit, then we made our move around some lapped cars when we need to.”

Dobmeier shared his initial thoughts on winning the points and track titles, saying, “It feels great. Our season started a little rough with the burns and everything, but we’ve got a great hard-working team behind me and we just have a lot of fun.”
