Dobmeier Sees Top Five Go Away Late at Huset’s Opener

Grand Forks, N.D. (May 20, 2024) - Mark Dobmeier began his bid for a seventh Huset's Speedway title Sunday night in the Buffalo Wild Wings / Lunstra Motorsports No. 13 but had what looked to be a sure top five go away following a tangle on the backstretch late in the race.

Dobmeier made his season debut at River Cities Speedway following missing the previous week's action at the Bullring where Austin Pierce picked up a third-place finish. Dobmeier started fourth in his heat race and led the final four laps to pick up the win.

Dobmeier was slated to start eighth in the 25-lap main event, but thunderstorms brought the night to an early end with the feature being postponed to a later date.

Dobmeier made the trip back to Huset's Speedway on Sunday night after being rained out late in the afternoon one week prior.

Dobmeier was fourth quickest in time trials then finished second in his heat race setting up a sixth place starting spot in the 25-lap feature.

Dobmeier narrowly missed a spinning Scott Winters on lap three, moving into the top five on the restart. Dobmeier closed in on Tyler Drueke on lap five to begin a battle for the fourth spot but remained fifth until a lap eight caution for Scott Bogucki.

That moved Dobmeier up one more spot, restarting fourth when the green flag flew once again. Dobmeier remained an equal distance between Drueke and Jade Hastings as he remained fourth as the leaders started working lapped traffic.

Dobmeier took third from Tyler Drueke on lap 13 and began to battle Christopher Thram for the second spot with ten to go. On lap 17 Dobmeier and Justin Henderson tangled on the backstretch as the field slowed for a caution in turn four.

Dobmeier headed to the work area with front end damage but returned to the track at the end of the lead lap. Dobmeier did complete the race but finished 16th after the tangle.

Dobmeier will return to River Cities on Friday and Huset's again on Sunday night and Monday.
