By Spieker Promotions GRAND FORKS, N.D. (June 23, 2020) – Mark Dobmeier made his 2020 Buffalo Wild Wings NOSA Sprints / River Cities Speedway debut last Friday night. Dobmeier nearly came away with the win, but was forced to settle for a close second-place finish by night’s end. The driver of the Buffalo Wild Wings / Lunstra Motorsports No. 13 began the night by timing in fourth quick out of the 22 cars checked in. Dobmeier then followed that up with a fifth place run in his heat, which placed him ninth on the grid for the 25-lapper.
“We had a good, strong run in the feature. We’ve been trying some stuff that obviously didn’t work early in the night. We switched things up for the feature and had a lot better car,” said Dobmeier after the race. “We started ninth and I thought we were in a good position to get up front early in the race and misjudged some cars in front of me. I spun out and ended up having to go to the back.” Dobmeier again worked his way forward, becoming a contender in the closing laps. On the final restart, Dobmeier moved around Wade Nygaard to take over the second position and set his sights on Austin Pierce for the lead. “I was trying to be patient making my move on Austin (Pierce). We got down to the last lap and I knew I had to make a move,” he said. “I got a good run on him going down the backstretch and I did the big slide job in turns three and four. I thought he was going to be right there so I was very gentle on coming up to the cushion. I was trying to be patient and didn’t want to take him out or anything, and I kind of misjudged it.” Pierce squeezed between Dobmeier and the outside wall to win the race back the checkers by a mere car length. “Austin did a great job and ran a spectacular race,” said Dobmeier. “He earned it.” Up next, Dobmeier will head back to Jackson Motorplex for the 42nd annual AGCO Jackson Nationals with the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Cars. Dobmeier opened his 2020 season at Jackson on May 15th during the Great Lakes Shootout with the IRA Sprints. After picking up a heat race win, Dobmeier raced to a 19th place finish in the main event. The 2017 Jackson Motorplex 410 Sprint Car track champion has made six starts with the Outlaws already in 2020. His best run came at Beaver Dam Raceway on June 6th. The Jackson Nationals kick off on Thursday, June 25th and continues through Saturday, June 27th with $30,000 up for grabs. Fans can watch all of the action live on DIRTVision.com.
