GRAND FORKS, N.D. (August 23, 2023) - In an event he had won three previous times, Mark Dobmeier took the Buffalo Wild Wings Blazin' Challenge again last Friday night at River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks as the event moved from its former September date to its current placement as a lead in to the World of Outlaws second and final appearance of the season at the track this Friday night. Starting fourth in his heat race based off Blazin' Challenge series points, Dobmeier finished third setting up a third-place start in the King of the Hill event. Dobmeier, who ran the table during last season's King of the Hill beating all seven qualifiers, won two rounds before bowing out in the semi-finals. This set Dobmeier in the 13th starting spot in the 35-lap main event, his best start in the event since 2016, and second highest start overall.
Dobmeier split Jade Hastings and Jack Croaker on the initial start, moving past three cars to complete the top ten on the opening lap. Dobmeier restarted eighth on a lap four restart. Lap seven was when Dobmeier started making up ground as he moved past Zach Omdahl at the end of the lap. Dobmeier then passed Blake Egeland the following lap to move into the top five. From there, Dobmeier worked around the bottom side of the quarter-mile ‘Bullring’, eventually winning a multi-lap battle with Brendan Mullen to take the fourth spot. Next up was Austin Pierce and Gage Pulkrabek, moving past the former and into a podium spot just before in the midway point. Restarting third on the final restart with eight to go, Dobmeier moved past Austin Pierce to take the second spot. Spending the next four laps reeling in leader Jade Hastings, Dobmeier pulled even at the exit of turn four coming to Two to go and again briefly on the following lap but ended up a close second in the race. This week is the second visit by the World of Outlaws at River Cities this season. Dobmeier finished eleventh last August and 14th the following night at Red River Valley Speedway where the Outlaws will again stop on Saturday night. Dobmeier will then return to Huset's on Sunday to resume a close point battle with Brooke Tatnell a top the points at the track.
